Betlehem Play
An important local tradition is the Betlehem Play, during which a group of young people go from door-to-door and reenact the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.
The main actrs are the Virgin Mother Mary and Joseph, angels, shepherds, the 3 kings from afar, and the animals in the stable. The 14 young, amateur actors are dressed in costume. They walk around the village and perform their Bethlehem play that tells the story of Jesus' birth with some Christmas carols. After the play, they are invited by the hosts for some food and drinks, and sometimes a donation of money is paid for a good cause.
From 1947, during the communism, this tradition was forbidden to play, but in 1992 some enthusiastic local people renewed the tradition which is performed every year until the present.
