Bóbiska Folk Festival
Another project initiated by our association is the Bóbiska Folk Festival. We believe that preserving our traditional culture is a basic element of community cohesion and ethnic identity maintenance.
The first edition of the festival took place in 2004 in Plaiesii de Jos. To the previous edition we invited various Hungarian ensembles from different regions of Romania and from abroad to learn and present reciprocal our traditions and local cultures. We have learnt a lot and gained great and useful experiences, have established successful friendships and partnerships.
Beginning from 2011 we plan to expand the festival, and invite ensembles representing various ethnic groups from Romania. Our aim is to expand the horizons and experiences of our community and folk dance groups.
In the context of the European Union, the expanded boarders and possibilities, there is a need to open our cultural gates toward other co-existing nations and minorities, to discover the diversity and cultural richness of our country. Knowing and learning each other’s cultural traditions will help to prevent discrimination and prejudices towards other ethnic communities, and in the long term will strengthen the harmonious relations and co-existence between “us” and “them”.
